This is an unplanned, spontaneous decision not backed by any profound strategy as to several key issues, including but not limited to: how the wide spectrum of scientific disciplines at NOA will fit into the narrow scope of civil protection (most of them being unrelated), how the large operational costs (currently covered mostly by research projects and not by state funds) will be addressed, how the diverse research infrastructures, equipment and networks will be supported, how the academic/teaching role (such as PhD supervision and university teaching) will be maintained, and much more.Olga Ktenidou (Athens, 2023-11-19)

Υπογράφω επειφή είναι αδιανόητη η κατεδάφιση της ερευνητικής προσπάθειας και των δημόσιων ερευνητικων κέντρων που επιχειρεί η κυβέρνηση, ξεκινώντας απο το ΕΑΑ. Δεν έχουμε αμφιβολία ότι θα ακολουθήσουν και άλλα ΕΚ. Η κυβέρνηση τελείως ανεξέλεγκτη καταργεί βάναυσα οτι δεν εξυπηρετεί άμεσα την επίπλαστη εικόνα της οικονομικής ευμάρειας και διοικητικής επάρκειας και δεν έχει τον παραμικρό ενδοιασμό να αφαιρέσει και τους λίγους πόρους που κατευθύνονται σε δημόσιες δαπάνες για την έρευνα και να υποβαθμίσει το ρόλο και το έργο τόσο σημαντικών ερευνητικών κέντρων όπως το ΕΑΑ. This is a misguided decision, made about an internationally reputable and vibrant research center, which will harm both the mission and researchers of NOA. It is completely against any research /scientific logic this completely ungrounded, arbitrary move. No serious design, and consequence prediction, no serious analysis has taken place. It becomes annoying and tyring when all of the sudden, an arbitrary politic decision affects functioning and performance in research in Greece. I'm signing because I work with astronomers and astrophysicists currently and formerly at NOA, whose excellent and internationally recognised research has nothing to do with Climate Change or Civil Protection. Η σχεδιαζόμενη απόσπαση του Εθνικού Αστεροσκοπείου Αθηνών (ΕΑΑ) από την Γενική Γραμματεία Έρευνας και Καινοτομίας (ΓΓΕΚ) και η υπαγωγή του στο Υπουργείο Κλιματικής Κρίσης & Πολιτικής Προστασίας (ΥΚΚΠΠ) ΘΑ ΒΛΑΨΕΙ το ΕΑΑ γιατί:Το ΕΑΑ αποσπάται από τον ιστό των 11 Ερευνητικών Κέντρων που είναι εδώ και δεκαετίες υπό την εποπτεία της ΓΓΕΚ που είναι ο αρμόδιος φορέας για το συντονισμό της έρευνας και της παραγωγής καινοτομίας

Το ΥΚΚΠΠ στερείται της αναγκαίας τεχνογνωσίας και αρμοδιότητας υποστήριξης της ερευνητικής διαδικασίας, που μόνο η ΓΓΕΚ κατέχει
Η γνωστή και βεβαιωμένη αδυναμία προσαρμογής της Ελληνικής δημόσιας διοίκησης σε σημαντικές και απότομες αλλαγές, θα προκαλέσει πολύ μεγάλη θεσμική αναστάτωση και δυσλειτουργίες στο Ε.Α.Α. που βρίσκεται σε μια φάση «εκθετικής» ανάπτυξης
Οι άμεσες οικονομικές συνέπειες για το ΕΑΑ και τη δημόσια έρευνα είναι τεράστιες:
Δεν θα μπορέσει να υλοποιηθεί εγκεκριμένο έργο από το Ταμείο Ανάκαμψης ύψους 66.000.000 €
θα υπάρξει σημαντικός κίνδυνος απένταξης έργων κτηριακών εγκαταστάσεων ύψους >5.000.000 € που βρίσκονται σε εξέλιξη
τίθενται σε κίνδυνο και οι μελλοντικές χρηματοδοτήσεις μέσω ΓΓΕΚ που απευθύνονται στα υπό την εποπτεία της Ερευνητικά Κέντρα

This decision poses an imminent threat to the research advancement in Greece as well as to ΝΟΑ itself as a famous research center/institution and definitively should not be supported! It seems that such suggestion comes from administrational / political persons that do not understand the important role and purpose of NOA and science. It seems that no consultation has taken place with the scientific experts and science managers who understand their business and importance, this is a shame.
