Research and Academia must remain independent from any other public authority or private interest.

This looks like a very worrying step towards reducing academic freedom and driving astrophysics research (i.e. solar physics) towards specified operational ends. This may work for some activities in astrophysics (though even that is arguable, as research underpins operations) but certainly not the majority. I do not see any rationale for this proposed change and urge that it be halted

Although astrophysics informs climate science, they are not one and the same, and need to be managed very differently

It seems unnatural to me that a pre-eminent pure research facility should be moved to support specific operational requirements in unrelated areas.

I'm signing because the detachment of NOA threatens not only NOA itself but all research institutions in Greece. It is undoubtedly a governmental attempt to control independent research and academic freedom.

To help preserve the National Observatory of Athens as a vital research center in Greece, ensuring its continued contributions to scientific advancement within its rightful home, the General Secretariat of Research & Innovation

I have over the past two decades regularly collaborated with scientists from NOA on various research projects in space science. NOA has proven to be one of the top research organisations in space physics and astrophysics in Greece. It is much appreciated by scientists world-wide. Demanteling NOA's capacity and expertise in space research and astrophysics would be a big loss to the national and international research community.

I understand that moving NOA to the Ministry of CC&CP may endanger NOA's excellent research. NOA is internationally well-known among the scientific community for this excellent research output.

I really believe this development will not benefit the research and scientific mission of
the National Observatory of Athens. On the contrary it will undermine its future.

Having greatly appreciated the scientific and organizational skills of the team coordinated at NOA by Dr,Vassiliki Kotroni in the context of Horizon EU proposal, I strongly regret about the planned reorganization and I hope that the previous status of the Observatory will be kept unchanged.

Astronomy is a basic research science, not a civil engineering discipline. Both are very important, but largely separate human endeavors.

Δεν χρειάζεται μεταφορά ενός ερευνητικού κέντρου για να υπάρξει συνεργασία μαζί του, την οποία συνεργασία τη θέλω και χρειάζεται να αξιοποιηθεί για το καλό της χώρας.

Beyond stating the obvious, which is that all research and academic organisations should be overseen by the same ministry with experience in managing research affairs, I am concerned about the impact of this move on NOA and the dangerous precedent that it sets for the research landscape, and democracy in Greece.
The move is clearly made out of spite and without any scoping review or study to demonstrate the potential benefit vs impacts for it. A modern state does not work like this. A government should not interfere with the academic freedom and activities of researchers, nor should it act without consultation with the parties affected by its planning.
In contrast with the government, NOA have clearly articulated the negative effects that this move will have on its operations and research staff, in a clear and convincing manner. Moreover, this move is yet another episode in the continued fragmentation and misalignment of the Greek research landscape, already criticised widely as a negative outcome of the current government's policies since 2019.
This is an authoritarian move by a government annoyed by inconvenient scientific output and knowledge dissemination and a clear attempt to exert control over NOA's activities and mission.
It is the duty of every academic, researcher and educated citizen to raise a voice against such behaviour by any government.
